CONTINUE THE CONNECTION TO MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST

I've just returned from Biloxi to celebrate the dedication of a new Coastal Family Health Center facility - 20,000 sq. ft. made possible by gifts from individuals, foundations and the state of Qatar. The coastline was hauntingly beautiful, knowing that Katrina tore through there a little more than 2 years ago. But there is progress amid the destruction.

Your donation to the Mississippi Coast Interfaith Disaster Task Force will support its urgently needed Disaster Warehouse operations (e.g., rental of the space and equipment). Donated building materials are given free to families who need them. Last year at this time donations from our congregation sent $2,000, which in turn was put toward building materials for the warehouse and for Turkey Creek, a black community where we prepared homes for rebuilding this past February 07.

A UU minister, the Rev. Jinnie Trabulsi, was instrumental in catalyzing advocacy on the coast. Currently, a coalition is opposing the governor's plan to redirect HUD housing funds from people to expanding the port for casinos. If there are no homes, there is no power to control one's destiny. If you are able, continue our solidarity with the Coast by sending a check payable to MS Coast Interfaith Disaster Task Force. Address:  610 Water St., Biloxi, MS 39530. Put in memo line: Warehouse operations.
