Massachusetts is facing unsustainable pressure on its shelter system, as waves of people have fled countries seeking safer places to live. Addressing this crisis, Places to Thrive is a Massachusetts nonprofit organization established in 2023 to support the resettlement of people who have been forcibly displaced by war, violence, persecution, and other life-threatening situations. Central to the organization’s model is home-shares offered by people with an extra room in their house, guests who share commonalities with hosts, and a support team of volunteers to help connect people to community resources.
