Your First Visit Welcome to The First Church in Belmont, Unitarian Universalist We’re so glad you’re here. Whether you're just beginning or deconstructing your spiritual journey, or simply searching for a new church home, you are warmly invited to explore our vibrant, justice-seeking, and multigenerational community. What to Expect on Sunday During the church year (mid September - mid June) our Sunday worship services take place at 9:00 am and 11:00 am, with programs and activities for people of all ages. Services last about an hour and include music, reflection, readings, and a homily or sermon rooted in Unitarian Universalist values . After each service, we invite you to join us for coffee, conversation, and connection in the Upper Gathering Hall just outside the Sanctuary. We have several Sundays throughout the church year where we offer only one service at 10:30 am in an effort to bring our entire community together. These include our four outdoor services held on the Town Green, the Major Music Service, our Partner Church service and a few more, so be sure to check our calendar . Every Sunday during the summer (mid June - mid September) we host community-based lay-led services at 10:00 am only in the Parish Hall. Come As You Are There’s no dress code—some people wear jeans, some wear their Sunday best. You’ll be welcome however you arrive. Our historic building is wheelchair accessible. As a Welcoming Congregation , we are committed to offering a safe and affirming space for members the 2LGBTQIA+ community, and we strive to create an inclusive environment for all. Bringing Children? Children are always welcome, and there are many Sundays where multigenerational worship is the Religious Exploration offering for that week . On other weeks we offer age-based classes during the service for children and youth ages birth-eighth grade. Nursery care is available year-round for our youngest visitors. Learn more about our Children's Religious Exploration program and our Sunday evening Youth Group for high school aged youth. Music and Community Music is central to the life of First Church. Each service includes performances by our talented musicians, choirs, and instrumentalists. You’ll also find opportunities to participate in community groups, classes, and events throughout the week. Finding Us We’re located at 404 Concord Avenue, Belmont, MA. Our church has a parking lot, along with free street parking nearby and easy access by public transportation.   • Children's Religious Exploration | First Church Belmont

    The CRE program offers engaging Sunday morning programs at 9:00 am, 11:00 am designed to inspire children and teach them about key social, spiritual, and relational topics. Children's Religious Exploration The Religious Exploration program at FCB aims to provide an enlightening, engaging and rewarding religious educational experience for all children that: Is grounded in the principles of Unitarian Universalism Focuses on fundamental human values, life skills, and spiritual development and exploration Encourages an understanding and acceptance of all religions Creates a sense of belonging to the entire church community We offer a variety of programs on Sunday morning (9:00 am, 11:00 am), and beyond, that capture the interest of children and help educate them on key social, spiritual and relational topics. Jan 21 RE Calendar Each month we offer Multigenerational Worship, All Ages Children's Chapel, and Age-Based RE classes. Check out the RE Calendar to know what to expect on Sunday morning. RE Calendar Volunteer With CRE We are always in need of helpers for our Children's Religious Education programs. From nursery care to OWL facilitation to organizing supplies, we have needs for every interested volunteer. Volunteer with CRE PreK - Kindergarten - 1st Grade Class: Spirit Play Spirit Play is an active way of thinking about religious education. The lessons utilize a Montessori framework to model authentic religious questioning, the freedom to search for one's own meaning, and perhaps most importantly, spiritual learning through fun and creativity. This class is open to preschoolers and kindergarteners aged 4 - 6. Currently this class is doing a Spirit Play-Style Curriculum. Each week features a storybook, reflection time, and open play. 2nd - 4th Grade Class: UU Values Adventure This class will be doing a curriculum this Fall on UU values called JETPIG Adventure, following the adventures of a plush pig navigating the galaxy while learning about justice, equity, transformation, pluralism, interdependence, and generosity. We will use games, crafts, art projects, stories, and other activities to help our young learners explore these values together. 5th - 8th Grade Class: Junior High Group This Fall, this class will be exploring our values through a curriculum called UU Values Challenge. This is an active, experiential-based program designed for all types of learners.   • MUSIC PROGRAM | First Church in Belmont

    The First Church in Belmont has a wide and varied music program that serves the entire congregation as well as the community at large. During this socially distanced time, the music program continues to bring opportunities for connection, artistry, and celebration. Many of our programs are continuing virtually this year, and we have some new programs to offer that take advantage of the digital medium we’re all working with Music at First Church The First Church in Belmont is home to a rich and varied music program, involving many members of the community. Our children's choir is open to kids and youth of all ages and performs a fully staged musical every year, along with several concerts and other performances. Our adult choirs sing in the Sunday services each week, and present two Major Music Services with a professional orchestra each year. Community members of all ages and skill levels participate in services, concerts, casual music evenings, and more.
