About The Event

The FCB Legacy of Slavery Project invites you to join us on Saturday, June 7, at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall for a showing of Henry Louis Gates Jr.‘s “Black in Latin America: Cuba,” the last of three films in this spring's Cuba and Race Documentary Film Series. Light refreshments will be provided.

In "Black in Latin America: Cuba," Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. explores how Cuba's culture, religion, politics, and music are deeply intertwined with the legacy of African slavery. He examines the significant role that enslaved Africans played in developing Cuba's lucrative 19th-century sugar industry and investigates how race and racism have evolved since Fidel Castro's Communist revolution in 1959.
