- Volunteer with Miyawaki Forest Action Belmont to Study Mini Forest at BHS!
MFAB (Miyawaki Forest Action Belmont) is developing education initiatives with the schools and our wider community to chart the growth of the BHS Mini-Forest. One of these is a Citizen Science Phenology Study for the National Phenology Network. Join us to collect data on seasonal phenomena such as bud break, leaf growth, flowering, fruiting, and leaf drop, to help the National Phenology Network study trends in climate change. Watch this short video for more information. Volunteers will be trained to collect data: in the form of yes-no and multiple choice questions on 9-10 trees during the growing season, which might take fifteen minutes or so per week. at on-site meetings tentatively scheduled for Sundays at 4pm starting April 12. Once trained, volunteers are free to collect data on their own schedules. Please join us! Hello Families, This Sunday April 5th is All-Ages Children's Chapel ! Children will be invited to start in worship and depart together after the story downstairs to class, where we will hold an all-ages Children's Chapel lesson. We will use our time to learn about the Easter holiday and what it means for our Christian friends and neighbors. After both services, we will hold Egg Hunts for children! We will provide baskets, or you can bring your own. Treats will be nut-free. Happy hunting! Before Sunday, we ere hosting an exciting event (that is also a great learning opportunity for children): the Passover Seder on Thursday at 5:30! The Seder is intentionally multigenerational, and a good way for children to learn about this ritual from our Jewish community members. Don't forget to register your children for the RE program here! - HOME | First Church Belmont — Unitarian Universalist
The welcoming community at First Church in Belmont, UU is home to worship, music, religious exploration, and programs for all ages rooted in justice and love. We are a home for seekers, a community for justice, guided by a spirit of love—all are welcome here. top Rev. Jo Murphy Series: Embodying Resilience Age-based RE Classes 9:00 am & 11:00 am In his book "Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder", Dachner Keltner, a psychology scholar, defines awe as "the feeling of being in the presence of something vast that transcends your current understanding of the world." In my experience, awe is a concept not often felt by UU's. We greatly value logic, rationality, and critical thinking, which though are important, can sometimes block our ability to experience awe. Being less familiar with awe blocks our ability to be open to miracles and wonder, and isn't this a moment where we could really use a miracle, where we could learn and expand our imagination through "transcending our current understanding of the world?" Music for the 9:00 am Unplugged and Connected service is provided by FCB community members Lynn and Roger Read, Roger Miller, and Gerri Strickler.
