  • Committees | First Church in Belmont

    Members interested in volunteering, giving back and finding new ways to connect are welcome to join our many volunteer committees. We look forward to your input and collaboration. FCB Committees Joining a committee is a great way to deepen your involvement with First Church in Belmont. Committees make everything we do at First Church possible. They are made up of members of the congregation and are open to anyone who would like to contribute. If you're interested in learning more please contact Lillian Anderson to get connected. Committee on Ministry To act as a feedback loop for the Senior Minister and the Parish Board on what the CoM members hear, see, or sense about the Church’s ministries and congregational experience. To provide an annual report to the Senior Minister, Parish Board, and congregation regarding the status of our community. To collaborate with the Parish Board President for the annual evaluation of the Senior Minister. Chair(s): Ian Garvie igarvie@uubelmont.org Music Committee The Music Committee is dedicated to enriching our community through various musical events and activities. We enhance our programming by overseeing ticket sales and check-in, supporting the Children’s Fall Musical, and facilitating all-around FCB efforts, including library organization and special service setup. Our members utilize their skills in event coordination, costume organizing, set construction, and hospitality to create memorable experiences for everyone involved. Finding new and creative ways to build upon First Church’s stewardship program. Chair(s): Gina Carloni, Bruce Logan gina.carloni@gmail.com , blogan@lesley.edu Communications Committee The Committee on Communications (Comm-Comm) is dedicated to serving as a key advisory body, providing strategic guidance on communication and operational priorities. The committee will actively collaborate to define upcoming goals, facilitate coordination with the Board, and mobilize volunteers for specific initiatives. Regular monthly meetings will ensure consistent progress and realignment of priorities as needed. Additionally, members will engage in one-on-one or small group discussions to address specific needs and ensure the effective execution of communication objectives on an as-needed basis. Chair(s): Raeann Mason, Tom Parent hello@uubelmont.org Lifespan RE Committee We are dedicated to nurturing the spiritual and ethical growth of children and youth from nursery through high school within our community. We create inclusive and engaging programs that reflect our principles of compassion, justice, and interconnection while fostering a sense of belonging among young people and their families. By ensuring a diverse curriculum, providing resources for family involvement, and creating safe spaces for exploration, we empower the next generation to develop their beliefs and values in a supportive environment. Additionally, we recruit and train dedicated volunteers to lead our programs with compassion and integrity without whom our programming would not be possible. Chair(s): Raeann Mason, Marthe Durkee-Neumann cre@uubelmont.org Shared Ministry Team Chair(s): Welcoming Committee The Welcoming Committee introduces newcomers to the congregation and helps them become part of the First Church community by welcoming and orienting them, helping connect them to activities of interest and people with common interests, and sharing information about the benefits of membership. It also recognizes new members formally. Chair(s): Sara Oaklander, Lillian Anderson landerson@uubelmont.org Fellowship Committee The Fellowship Committee organizes a wide range of events designed to foster connection and enjoyment for individuals and families at First Church. By offering activities that appeal to all ages and diverse interests, the committee aims to strengthen personal bonds and build a vibrant community. The goal is to host approximately one event each month during the church year, as space and resources allow. Chair(s): Tracey Summerhayes tsummerhayes@uubelmont.org Membership Database Committee The Membership Database Committee enhances access to member information through a cloud-based system. We assist users with database access, report generation, and online signups via Fellowship One. Our focus is on ensuring permission-based directory access and responding to data needs from leaders and staff. Chair(s): Lauren Crocker, Miriam Baker Social Action Committee To support current social action initiatives at First Church, including UU the Vote, Refugee/Migrant Support Group, FCB Green, Grow Clinic, and Holiday Fair. The committee helps with publicity, recruitment, and financial support, and assists with the establishment of new initiatives responding to the interests of congregants and needs that arise in our community or the wider world.     Our youngest children, infants to age 3, receive tender loving care in a nursery environment that encourages imaginative and cooperative play. Welcome to the Nursery Our youngest children, infants to age three, receive tender loving care in an environment that encourages imaginative and cooperative play. Please remember that your young child may need some extra time each Sunday morning to feel secure before you go to the Sanctuary. Arriving early ensures children’s sense of safety. Likewise, we ask you to pick up your child directly after the service. On regular Sundays, the Nursery is open from 8:45 am to 12:15 pm.
